Best. News. EVER.

Well, for today, anyway.

So I stayed until almost 7 last night, getting sub plans together, because today I was scheduled to go to court as a witness. I got subpoena...ed? and everything. Last week. It was nerve-wracking.

Anyway, I called and got the same sub I'd had when I was out of class to organize & manage photo day. But I didn't know which forms to fill out or anything, or what the protocol was. I asked the secretary, who didn't know, but decided we would treat it kind of like jury duty.

Important note to new teachers - all teachers, really: Befriend the secretaries. They can save your bacon. (Or cook it.)

So at nine, I get a call from the DA's office, and they tell me I don't have to come in and testify. HUGE sigh of relief. I think what I was really scared of was somehow being used against this kid. Admittedly, he did something colossally stupid, but still! It wasn't a dangerous situation, there was no damage to property, nobody got hurt - nothing. And there was zero malice. It was just a booboo. (A big one.)

The assistant DA who called me said she didn't know anything for certain, but it's likely that there'll just be some sort of supervision and everything else will go back to normal. No restrictions on what he can do or where he can go, he'll be at school just like everyone else... WHEW.

I called the school back and talked to the secretary again. Should I get out of my jammies and come in? She talked to the AP, who said that if I felt I needed to come in, I could. I said I didn't think so - I knew I had a capable sub, and I knew I had left effective plans. But I also said that if there were any problems, they could call and I'd come right in.

She said "all right then - have a good day."

BOY WILL I EVER! WOW!

I get a FREE DAY. An unexpected free day! Isn't it lovely? I mean, it's not a big deal, and I'm not actually going to change into jeans, just in case I do get called back in. But - wow!

So I get to go to the library without feeling rushed. I can get caught up on our laundry, dishes, and grading. (Well, the grading is mine, I guess, not ours... though the Hunk is so wonderful that he inputs grades as I mark the next set of assignments!)

How incredibly wonderful! *^.^*

Stopped in from Melissa B's... I've had to serve on a jury, but never testify in front of one. I think I'd take the free day over having to be a witness too.

Nice job on the ABBA flashback.

I remember from my subbing days that the best days happened when the teacher gave an assignment that was due at the end of the period, and students could work together.

Although I once spend three weeks in an art class without a single plan. The students kept themselves largely entertained.
