Whew! What a day. I woke up at 5, and then again at 6:30 and couldn't get back to sleep, so I got up and started grading and entering. Twelve and a half hours later, I'm finally done.
Not including a break to help my parents load their van and head out, and another for a lovely three-hour nap, I've been grading ALL. FRIKKIN. DAY.
On the up side of things, I'm completely caught up except for a memorization quiz that The Hunk promised he'd check for me, so Imonna let him! Then I'll have to enter those grades, and that'll be all.
We just made the unfinished bedroom into a habitable space and I'm going to be using that as my office, so I think now I'm going to get my stuff together and set that space up. Then this evening I'll try to plan out next week in Journalism and the King Arthur unit for English II. I have some ideas for where I'm going with that, but I need to look over those ideas again while I've also got my hands on the materials I currently have. I hope I can make it work the way I'm thinking.
Melissa, I swear I've got a TALT in the back of my head - two, actually, now, after last night, but I'm keeping them both under wraps! I hope to type one of 'em up this evening.

Hello there. Finally got around to seeing you had commented on my journalism blog regarding your j-curriculum objectives wiki.
The objectives seem solid. Interesting, too, that you have two different levels of journalism. My school only has one, yet students can take journalism twice. Eventually I would like to boost enrollment so we could offer two courses.
This will be my third year teaching journalism at my current school, but my first year advising the newspaper. The past two years the course has really been about newspaper writing, studying and reading area newspapers (Boston Globe, Boston Herald, Daily Hampshire Gazette), and learning about the life of a journalist, fairness, ethics, etc.
This year I hope to do all of the above while also having one of the course's primary objectives be to create a strong student media publication that mimics a professional newspaper.
How much time do you spend in your courses teaching journalism concepts vs advising the student publication? Are there any systems or organizational structures you've found beneficial?
