Blog Audit: Header/Layout

This is how I spend a "lazy" weekend - tinkering with what should go above the fold and how wide my gutters are and should I move both my sidebars to the right?

Don't know how I feel about the new header. (The old one can be seen here.)

I'm debating whether or not I want to tighten things up a bit.

Right now as I look at things everything seems to be 'floating' a bit too much. Part of it is - how much of this is for me, and how much is for my readers? I know I need to clean out my link sets - but, for example, do I take out one of the forums because it focuses almost exclusively on elementary? Some readers might find it useful, but it's like... *I* never go there. It's not that there's anything WRONG with the site; it's just not something that's useful to me.

I want to go through and clean up my taglist. I've started using tags, but somewhat haphazardly. I want to make them more of a useful tool and less of an afterthought. It'll make it easier to review what I've written in general, and to see patterns in my writing and in what I'm reflecting on. I think it'll make my reflections more effective - I'll be able to SEE if I'm spending most of my thinking-time focusing on certain issues and possibly neglecting other areas. And it'll help me spot which issues have given me the most trouble.

I've also rearranged some of my widgets on the right sidebar. I like featuring the recent comments (when the script runs correctly). It encourages conversation, which is one of my favorite parts of blogging. Plus it also adds more text above the fold - right now I feel a bit image-heavy.

We'll see how it goes!

I understand your obsession! I am similarly obsessed, but too afraid to do much about it. Love the new look, though.
