Nine PM ALREADY?!

Ugh. I still have more grading to do, darnit!

I've started going over reading strategies with my freshmen. We read Asimov's "The Fun They Had," and for most of them it took 10-15 minutes (charting as they went). Some of them actually had the GALL to gripe about the length of the story! It's not even a thousand words!!

Heavens. What're they gonna do when I dump them into something that's actually AT GRADE LEVEL, like "To Build a Fire" (7176 words) or "The Most Dangerous Game" (8426)? Granted, we've also got Poe's "The Cask of Amontillado" (2495) in the anthology as well, but I hardly think that's any easier, what with the archaic language and all...

I've learned two things in my career: 1) students complain no matter what I assign and 2) the grades come out about the same no matter how much or little I assign (so I go with more).
